CONNOISSEUR'S
ASIA
China with Yangzi River Cruise
Dates to Suit
Introduction
China
is a study in contrasts – from its ancient roots to its coming of
age in modern times. It must be seen to be believed and then
it all practically changes before your eyes. See the rural
villages and pagodas soon to be obliterated by the world’s largest
dam. Drift through those magnificent gorges, and walk though
the timeless gardens of Suzhou. Float along the Li River’s
mystical landscape, and dive into the hustle and bustle of that
most contemporary of cities, Shanghai. Experience awesome,
confusing Beijing, the Forbidden City and evocative Tianenmen Square.
Climb the Great Wall.
The food is a great surprise.
You haven’t "done Chinese" until you have eaten at the Green
Tea House in Beijing, or experienced one of many "banquets" throughout
the journey. "Take-away" will never be the same.
You will feel in many ways
at home and in others like a stranger in a strange land. You
will be surprised, confused, and charmed. You will be glad
you came.
The trip begins in Hong
Kong at the incomparable Peninsula. Please join us.
Tour
Overview
We
take it from the top with two nights in Hong Kong at the
Peninsula
Hotel.
Our full day here is taken up by the classic sightseeing and a welcome
dinner at Felix. Shopping opportunities abound.
Two
nights in Guilin at the Sheraton
Guilin
Hotel allow us to cruise the Li River and visit a local village.
Xian
is home to the famous terra cotta warriors which we visit during
our two night stay at the
Shangri
La Golden Flower.
We also see the mosque and Muslim Quarter, the new Shaanxi Museum,
and enjoy a typical dumpling lunch.
We
fly to Chongquin for a brief visit before boarding our river
boat, the M.
S. East Queen. Three
nights/two days of cruising takes us past traditional river villages
(many soon to disappear), and, of course, through the famed
Three Gorges. We tour the Dam Project, visiting the site itself.
Disembark
in Yichang and fly to Shanghai to spend three nights
at the new Four
Seasons Hotel
on a luxurious Club floor. We do extensive sightseeing
and dining in Shanghai including a Peking Duck dinner, a gala dinner
at M on the Bund, and a day visiting the garden city of Suzhou.
Fly
to Beijing and spend four nights at the new St.
Regis Hotel in Diplomat rooms.
Our sightseeing over several days includes the Forbidden City, the
hutongs by Pedi cab, Tianenmen Square, the Great Wall, the Ming
Tombs, the Summer Palace, and lots of shopping possibilities.
Dining highlights include a very special dinner at the Green Tea
House and our gala farewell at the China Club.
This
itinerary may be reserved as a private departure with a date of
your choosing.
