CONNOISSEUR'S
INDIA
Rajasthan with Pushkar Camel Fair
October 23 - November 04, 2006
Introduction
The
highlights of a trip to India are many: the stunning mosques and
temples; the sumptuous palaces and wonderful architecture; the scenic
beauty of the natural landscape; the myriad of flowers and the colorful
dress of the women; the exotic handicrafts and craftsmanship.
There is also poverty and disease; there are traditions and customs
that seem strange and awful to us; there is heart-wrenching beauty
and heart-breaking sadness; there are the warm and friendly people;
there is the exotic air lent by a rich and intricate cultural and
religious tapestry. There is much to learn and a very great deal
to enjoy.
Tour
Overview
Two nights at the Oberoi
Hotel Delhi in deluxe rooms with
a welcome dinner at Bukhara. We have a full day here to explore
the major sites of New and Old Delhi.
Fly to Khajuraho
and to the Hotel
Chandela.
After lunch
we visit the immaculately restored erotic Hindu temples of Khajuraho.
Further exploration the next morning and then fly to Varanasi
for one night at the
Taj
Ganges Hotel. In the afternoon visit Sarnath
where Siddhartha Guatama gave his first sermon opening Buddhism
to the world. This
evening visit the riverside "ghats" and experience the
Festival of Lights. Early the next morning we take a
boat ride on the holy river Ganga where our senses are assaulted
by the rites and rituals of Hinduism reinforced by a walk through
the old bazaars. An afternoon flight to Delhi and
drive to Agra.
Agra
and two nights at the highly acclaimed Amarvilas
in deluxe rooms. See
the Taj Mahal at sunrise from the comfort of your room, followed
by exploration of Agra, and a return to the ever fascinating Taj
Mahal at sunset.
By road to Sawai
Madhopur and on to Ranthambhor with two
nights at the deluxe new Vanyavilas.
Early morning and afternoon jeep safaris to Ranthambhor National

We move on

Our very special accommodations are in the Royal Tents of the Pushkar

we are at leisure to explore this splendid city and to shop, ending
with a sunset cruise on Lake Pichola. The

drive around the lake. We enjoy cocktails on board the 150 year
old Royal Barge.

Jodhpur with a stop to see the wondrous Jain temple
of Ranakpur . We spend two nights at the Umaid
Bhawan Palace in deluxe rooms.
